Fellow Aiden review: a connected coffee maker that also passed the lab tests

Updated by Isadora Venn. Links to Amazon earn us a commission (how that works).

This Fellow Aiden review is built on two outside results and one long listing. The SCA certified Aiden in 2024, America's Test Kitchen named it its programmable winner, and Fellow's Amazon listing (logged Oct. 27, 2026) spells out more specifications than most coffee makers bother to publish.

Verdict

Buy it if you switch beans often and want one machine that brews a single mug or ten cups properly. Skip it if you don't want an app or firmware anywhere near your coffee.

Smart kitchen gadgets usually ask you to trust the app. The Aiden is unusual because its brewing has been checked by people with no stake in the app: an SCA lab and an America's Test Kitchen panel.

The app is still there, and it's genuinely useful for scheduling and saving recipes. But you can use Aiden from its own buttons every day and never miss it.

Aiden brews from 1 to 10 cups with two baskets: one for a single serving, one for a batch. An adjustable showerhead changes how water lands for each.

Presets run from light roasts to dark ones, plus a cold brew mode that Fellow says starts with a hot bloom and finishes with cooler water. Aiden also calculates how much coffee you need for the amount you're brewing.

Brew with this if you want precise brewing for one mug on Tuesday and a full pot on Sunday.

Choose another if your routine never changes; the certified OXO 8-Cup brews mug or pot from plain buttons for far less. See OXO Brew 8-Cup on Amazon

Two outside results

Two independent results support the Aiden.

The SCA certified it in 2024. That entry mentions the single-serve option and app connectivity, so it matches the model we're reviewing. Certification checks temperature and timing on test brews, plus extraction.

America's Test Kitchen added the Fellow Aiden to its coffee maker testing and named it the programmable winner, while keeping the Moccamaster KBT as its overall favorite. That's an editor panel brewing side by side with the machines it competes against.

What neither source can tell you is how the app ages. Connected appliances depend on the maker keeping the software alive. Fellow's listing says the app keeps the machine updated; plan as if the buttons are what you'll rely on in year five.

Fellow Aiden specs start with its size. At 11.8 in tall on a 9 by 9 in footprint, it's the shortest machine among our ten picks. If your upper cabinets hang low, this is the easy answer. It weighs 9.74 lb and draws 1,700 watts, more than most drip makers, which helps it heat quickly.

The tank holds 1.5 liters and comes out for filling. Filters are flexible: Melitta #2 cones for single servings and standard 8 to 12-cup basket filters for batches.

A hidden cord wrap and a steam seal on the carafe are small touches that show up in daily use more than on a spec sheet.

One mug or ten

Aiden is easiest to justify in homes where the routine changes:

  • One person on weekdays, guests on weekends. A single 12 oz mug Monday to Friday, a full 10 cups on Saturday. Beans for the weekday mugs alone come to about $95 a year at this site's defaults.
  • A couple with different roasts. One likes light, the other dark. Save two profiles and stop arguing about grind and ratio.
  • A cold brew habit. The preset makes cold brew in hours, which saves a jar and a night of planning.

The app handles scheduling. You can also press a button and get coffee, which matters at 6 a.m. when your phone is in another room.

Fellow adds a $25 coffee credit for eligible US buyers who register the machine. Treat it as a discount on your first bag of beans.

Cleaning and descaling

Day-to-day cleaning on the Fellow Aiden is quick: the batch basket doesn't drip and the tank comes out. Rinse the basket you used and wash the carafe every day or two.

How to descale the Fellow Aiden: run its maintenance routine with a coffee maker descaler, following Fellow's instructions in the app or manual. The listing doesn't give a frequency. Hard water speeds things up, so descale every month or two if your kettle shows white crust.

Filters are a small running cost worth planning for. Fellow sells its own 50-count papers for the batch basket and 40-count #2 cones for the single-serve one, and the batch papers also fit most 8 to 12-cup basket machines, so a standard basket filter works in a pinch. Both Fellow packs are on the accessories page.

Wipe the showerhead area weekly. Adjustable showerheads collect coffee spray and oil, and a clean one distributes water more evenly.

Why it rarely goes on sale

All three Aiden colors we logged on Oct. 27, 2026 showed the same price, each sold by Fellow. That points to a fixed list price; real Fellow Aiden deals tend to arrive as gift cards or coffee credits rather than markdowns.

One listing warned that only 15 were left in stock in one color. If a color matters to you, don't wait for a sale.

Questions it answers

Will it fit under my cabinets?

Almost certainly. Aiden is the shortest of our ten picks, under 12 inches tall.

9 x 9 x 11.8 in (Amazon listing).

Can it make just one cup?

Yes, and it's built for it: a dedicated single-serve basket plus an adjustable showerhead.

Brews 1 to 10 cups; single-serve basket and 10-cup batch basket included (Amazon listing).

Alternatives

Price is the usual objection. The Fellow Aiden alternatives page ranks cheaper certified options, and Breville Luxe vs Fellow Aiden covers the closest rival.

Who it's really for

People who already own a good grinder and buy beans from more than one roaster. Couples who disagree about strength. Small kitchens with low cabinets.

Aiden also suits anyone who drinks a single mug on weekdays and brews for a crowd on weekends, because its two baskets handle both ends of that range without the thin, rushed small batches that ruin one-mug brewing on most full-size machines.

It's overkill if your routine never changes. A simpler certified machine will make the same pot for less.

Capacity math

Ten cups at an assumed 5 oz each is about 50 oz from the 1.5 liter tank:

For the solo row, use the single-serve basket rather than a small batch in the big one.

FAQ

Is the Fellow Aiden worth it?

For people who brew different amounts and different beans, yes. It's one of very few connected coffee makers with SCA certification and a named editor endorsement.

What are the best Fellow Aiden alternatives?

The Breville Luxe Brewer Thermal for manual control, the OXO Brew 8-Cup for value, and the Moccamaster for simplicity.

Does the Fellow Aiden need the app?

No. You can brew from the machine's buttons. The app adds scheduling and custom recipes, and it delivers firmware updates.

What filters does the Fellow Aiden use?

Melitta #2 cone filters for single servings and 8 to 12-cup basket filters for batches.

How long is the Fellow Aiden warranty?

Two years standard, with optional paid extended coverage for US purchases, per the listing.

Can the Fellow Aiden brew on a schedule without my phone nearby?

Yes. Once a schedule is saved, the machine runs it on its own, so the phone only matters when you're setting or changing the routine, not on the morning itself when you're half awake and reaching for a mug.
