Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select 10-Cup review: one switch, five years of warranty

Updated by Isadora Venn. Links to Amazon earn us a commission (how that works).

This Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select 10-Cup review pulls together the SCA's 2026 certification, three named editorial reviews and the Amazon listing we logged on Oct. 27, 2026. It's our top pick on the homepage. Here's the case for it, and the case against.

Verdict

Buy it if you want a certified drip machine you won't think about for years. Skip it if you need a timer or a thermal carafe for the same money.

The KBGV Select does very little, and that's the appeal. You fill the tank, set the basket switch to half or full, flip the power switch and walk away. Four to six minutes later there's a pot. No screen asks you to set the clock after a power cut.

It has been near the top of coffee maker roundups for a long time, which makes it easy to dismiss as a status object. The 2026 evidence says otherwise, and the details are below.

One switch, one job

The Select is the Moccamaster for people who sometimes brew a half pot. A switch on the brew basket changes the flow so a small batch doesn't rush through the grounds. The SCA's listing for the KBGV Select describes the range as 16 to 40 oz.

The rest is the classic Moccamaster layout: a tall water tank at the back, a heating element below it, a basket on an arm and a glass carafe on a hot plate.

Brew with this if you'd pay more once to avoid buying another coffee maker for a long while.

Choose another if the carafe usually sits past lunch; the glass pot rides a hot plate, so look at a thermal model instead. See OXO Brew 8-Cup on Amazon

Sources: Specialty Coffee Association, Certified Home Brewers list (2026 entry); Tom's Guide, Best coffee maker 2026 (re-reviewed early 2026); The Coffee Locator, Best Drip Coffee Makers (updated Apr. 2026); America's Test Kitchen names the Moccamaster KBT, the thermal sibling, as its favorite.

Three sources, one verdict

Three kinds of evidence point the same way.

The SCA list. The Specialty Coffee Association lists the KBGV Select as certified in 2026. That means a lab measured its water temperature at the grounds, timed the full cycle and checked extraction over at least ten brews. Several sibling models (KBG, KB, KBT, KBGT, KBTS) are on the list too, which suggests the core heating design is doing the work.

Editor reviews. Tom's Guide re-reviewed the KBGV Select early in 2026 and put it back at the top of its guide. The Coffee Locator's April 2026 update also ranks it the best drip maker overall. Both are named publications that bought or borrowed the machine and used it.

A sibling's result. America's Test Kitchen names the Moccamaster KBT as its favorite. That's the thermal-carafe model, not this one. We mention it because it's often misquoted as an endorsement of every Moccamaster; it isn't, though it does say something good about the shared heater and basket.

What none of these sources claim is that the Moccamaster is the best value. It isn't. You're paying for consistency and build, and for that warranty.

Of all the Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select 10-Cup specs, height is the one the listing leaves out, and it's the one most worth checking. The tall tank and the basket arm sit above the carafe, and you'll want room to lift the tank lid. Measure from counter to cabinet, then ask Moccamaster or check the manual for the exact figure before you order.

Ten "cups" here means 40 oz, so each cup is 4 oz. That's smaller than the 5 oz cup Mr. Coffee uses and much smaller than a mug. Plan on three to four real mugs per pot.

Forty ounces in three kitchens

Here's what 40 oz means in three kitchens, using this site's default of $17 for a 2 lb bag of beans and the SCA's 55 grams per liter:

  • One person, one 12 oz mug. Use the half-pot switch and brew 16 oz. Beans cost about $134 a year, and you'll have a second small cup if you want it.
  • Two people, two 10 oz mugs each. That's exactly one full pot, about $445 a year in beans. This is the machine's sweet spot.
  • Four people, one 12 oz mug each. 48 oz is more than one pot. You'll brew twice or ration, and beans run about $534 a year. A 60 oz machine fits this house better.

The hot plate shuts off after 100 minutes. If you drink the pot inside an hour, the glass carafe is fine. If you don't, pour the remainder into a thermos, or look at the KBTS and KBT thermal siblings on the SCA list.

It's quiet. The listing makes a point of it, and the pump-free design is the reason: water rises by heat rather than by a motor.

Keeping the heater honest

Cleaning the Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select 10-Cup takes a minute a day: dump the filter, rinse the basket, wash the carafe. Both are simple shapes, so a brush reaches everything. How to descale it is the bigger question, and the next paragraph answers it.

Follow Moccamaster's manual for the steps. The listing doesn't give an interval, so use your water as the guide: hard-water homes should descale every month or two, soft-water homes less often. Run a descaler through a full tank, then two full tanks of plain water to flush it.

Scale matters more on a machine like this than on a cheap one. The whole point of the Moccamaster is the heater hitting temperature. A crust of scale on that element is the fastest way to lose the thing you paid for.

Colors, sellers and odd prices

We don't print the Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select 10-Cup price, and we don't chase deals on it, because both move daily. On Oct. 27, 2026, the Polished Silver and Dutch Cocoa listings showed identical prices, which is typical for Moccamaster: color rarely changes the price.

One Juniper listing came back with a figure nearly double the others and no decimal point. Our price rules flag that kind of entry, and you should treat any listing that's wildly off as a third-party seller to avoid. Real deals on the KBGV Select tend to be modest, so the five-year warranty from an authorized seller is worth more than a small discount from an unknown one.

Worries it settles

How long will it last, and can it be repaired?

Better than almost any coffee maker. Moccamaster puts a five-year warranty on the listing, which is the strongest written promise in this category.

KBGV Select: 5-year warranty. OXO Brew 8-Cup: 2 years. Breville Grind Control: 1 year (Amazon listings).

How long does a full pot take?

Quickly. The listing quotes a full 40 oz pot in 4 to 6 minutes, comfortably inside the SCA's 8-minute limit.

40 oz in 4 to 6 minutes (Amazon listing); certified brewers must finish in 8 minutes or less (SCA).

Alternatives

If the price stops you, there are certified options for less. The full list is on Moccamaster alternatives, and the head-to-head with OXO is on Moccamaster vs OXO Brew 8-Cup.

Who should buy it

The Moccamaster is for people who want their coffee maker to be the least interesting object in the kitchen. Couples are the obvious match, because one full pot is almost exactly two people's mornings.

It's also a strong buy for anyone who has replaced a cheap machine every two or three years and is tired of it. Five years of written warranty is a different promise from a one-year limited warranty, and over a decade the Moccamaster can end up costing less per year than three budget machines bought in a row, even before you count the better coffee.

It's a weaker buy for big households, timer lovers and slow drinkers. The pot is 40 oz, there's no clock, and the glass carafe sits on a plate.

Pot math

How 40 oz stretches across five kinds of household, at this site's default bean cost:

HouseholdCoffee per morningOn the Moccamaster KBGV SelectBeans per year
Solo, one 12 oz mug12 ozOne pot (30% of 40 oz)$134
Couple, two 10 oz mugs each40 ozOne pot (100% of 40 oz)$445
Two remote workers, three 8 oz mugs each48 ozTwo pots (120% of 40 oz)$534
Family, three 12 oz mugs36 ozOne pot (90% of 40 oz)$401
Small office, six people, two 8 oz cups96 oz2.4 pots (240% of 40 oz)$1,068

Anything above 100 percent means brewing twice. The half-pot switch makes the solo row work without a weak, rushed small batch.

FAQ

Is the Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select 10-Cup worth it?

Yes, if you value a five-year warranty and certified brewing over a timer. If you don't, the OXO Brew 8-Cup gets you most of the coffee for much less.

What are the best Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select 10-Cup alternatives?

The OXO Brew 8-Cup and Bonavita Enthusiast are both SCA certified and cost less. The Ratio Six matches the warranty.

Who should buy the Moccamaster KBGV Select?

Households that drink about 40 oz in one sitting, which is three or four mugs, and like a simple routine.

Where should I buy a Moccamaster?

From Amazon or Moccamaster's authorized sellers, so the five-year warranty applies. Avoid listings with prices far from the rest.

What's the difference between the KBGV Select and the KBT?

The KBGV Select has a glass carafe on a hot plate and a half-pot switch. The KBT has a thermal carafe. Both are on the SCA list.

Does the Moccamaster have a timer?

No. It brews when you flip the switch, and the hot plate turns off after 100 minutes.
